Your Place6

June 1, 2007

This isn’t my website. It doesn’t belong to me. It’s not about me any more than your local church is about your pastor. The pastor is merely the under shepherd, looking over the flock. The flock, however, belongs to the Good Shepherd—to Jesus Christ. This online ministry is for the church—the body of Christ. We’re pleased to share it with the body, so news and announcements, articles and essays and public service info are always welcome here. If my voice speaks the loudest on this web ministry, it’s because I am often the only one speaking. But the mic is open to the body of Christ—to you. Thousands of you visit here every month; it seems unbelievable that nobody seems to have anything to say.

This weblog is a perfect place to start. You can comment on posts left here simply by clicking the word “Comments” below. Your voice, your opinions, are welcome here. We also have a Message Board that is available for your views and opinions; we can even start a forum for you or your ministry.

Finally, if you keep us plugged in to what’s going on with your ministry, we’ll be happy to note it here on the PraiseNet. This ministry is not about making money; it’s not a commercial site looking to profit from God’s work. We’re here to support the efforts of African American churches across the country. That means you and your ministry. The PraiseNet is designed to present a plurality of opinions, a chorus of voices—not a solo act. This ministry is God-inspired and God-breathed, designed for you and for your ministry. You’re more than welcome to visit us every week, we’d just like to remind you that you are also welcome to participate; to make this place your own.

Vanessa:

Praise God for you brother. I just received a link to this web site tonight. Prayerfully, I will be able to interact quite frequently. God bless you for this ministry.

Hi, Sis!

The weblog is one of those areas of the site that doesn't get much of a workout. I'm never sure what it is-- lots of folks will email me, but almost no one posts comments here. I'm not sure if it's because we have nothing to say (doubt it-- I know folks have LOTS to say!) or if it's because many folks aren’t yet familiar with how a blog works (that it is interactive; that you can speak back). But, in any case, you're certainly welcome-- as are the six thousand other folks who quietly visit every month!

This week and next we're featuring a kind of retrospective, so I apologize for the overall heavy tone to the site. We've moved somewhat away from beating up Church Folk lately, so this week is perhaps not the best example of what the PraiseNet is as the 200 Weeks retrospective comes down fairly hard on many of the practices of the black church.

I'm trying to be less critical (and trying to get my colleagues, who are, in fact less critical) to do more writing. But everybody's busy and everybody's got different priorities, so my voice, the cynical, bitter, angry nut, tends to dominate the site.

But this is a place for all voices, even and especially voices that disagree with mine. It's not intended to be "my" web site. It's designed, under God's anointing, to belong to all of us.

Which is a long-winded way of saying hello and welcome!
