Members and Friends, Just want to pass along an update 1) September calendars were distributed on yesterday and will be posted to the website by Wednesday. Please note the Sept 18 Southern District Picnic is actually on September 11. Pls see Bro AZ Craver or Deacon (candidate) Reed for details. 2) Several people have asked about the September 4th Koonce/Perkins wedding. Some are under the impression that the wedding is a private ceremony, which is UNTRUE--that is why it is listed on the calendar! The wedding starts at 11:30am in the sanctuary. We need as many credible church witnesses as possible to see Robin jump the broom, pledge her eternal love and recite how willingly she is going to "love, honor, and OBEY" her Skyy--her new husband. You never know, Skyy may need someone to testify at some point! 3) Our Capital Campaign has piqued a lot of your interest and many want to know what's next. Pastor asks for your patience as there is a LOT going on behind the scenes to make sure we do this project decently and orderly. Please continue to pray for EMBC and we will move at God's pace. 4) We will celebrate our 47th Church Anniversary on Sunday, September 19th. Contact Janice Donald for details. 5) Our deacon candidates will be ordained on Sunday, September 26 at 3:00pm. Mark your calendar to ensure you are present for this historic event in the life of the EMBC family. These dedicated men of God and servants are the first candidates (and their wives) that went through the entire calling and training process under Pastor Thompson. Members and Friends, Just want to pass along a few tidbits of information: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEACON RICKY DAVIS and others! 1) Our eKids Ministry is re-grouping and hosting a training session on this coming Saturday, August 14, 9 am to noon. If you're interested in this ministry or not sure what it entails, please drop by the meeting. Contact Minister Shannon Jones FMI. 2) Mark your calendars for our 47th Church Anniversary. We will celebrate this occasion on Sunday, September 19th. More details are forthcoming from Pastor Thompson and Sister Janice Donald. Dinner will be served before our afternoon Anniversary Worship Experience. 3) Our Fine Arts Ministry is hosting the "Jesus House" on Sunday, October 31 at Hillside Community Center. Jesus House is an alternative to Halloween and is open to the entire community. Actors, volunteers and scary people are needed, and donations of candy and food are requested. Order online at www.godiswithus.org 5) Our Prayer and Assistance for Local and Long-distance Students (PALS) Ministry is accepting sponsors for the 2010/2010 academic year. Our PALS Ministry encourages spiritual growth, academic success, and perseverance for undergraduate students. They provide care packages biannually and sponsor social events to connect students and sponsors. This is a GREAT opportunity for members to form relationships with our matriculating students! Rhonda Campbell will accept $25 contributions until August 22. Help support this ministry and our students! 6) Our Moses E. Ford Scholarship Fund awards $500 stipends to active, fulltime, undergraduate, EMBC scholars. Students must earn a cumulative 2.5 GPA and submit a transcript of grades to be eligible. Contact Deacon Mack before returning to college to see if you qualify. Cut off date is August 29th. 7) Please continue to pray for our TV ministry and those listed on our Prayer List. We are excitedly looking forward to Saturday's BBQ at America The Beautiful Park in beautiful downtown Colorado Springs! We are expecting a record crowd this year, so come early and bring a side dish to share. Everyone is welcome to join us for this wonderful time of fun and fellowship. We will have all-new tee-shirts on sale for only $12 (see attached image), as well as EMBC ball caps and lapel pins ($10 and $5 respectively). Members and Friends, Just want to pass along that Deacon Clinton Napoleon's father-in-law went to be with the Lord. Many of you know the deacon's wife, Sister Joyce Napoleon. The funeral is tomorrow in Shreveport, Louisiana. The vigil starts at 7:00PM and ends tomorrow at 8:00AM with breakfast at the church. I think we all agree that we need prayer and that God has truly blessed the Emmanuel family! Come out and spend some time--you do not need to stay the entire 13 hours, but the church will be open during this time. We will recognize our 2010 Financial Peace University graduates during the 10:45 Worship Experience on this coming Sunday. These enthusiastic people have taken a financial stance that must not go unnoticed! Many of you have heard testimonies from this set of graduates and earlier graduates on the financial freedom they are experiencing as a result of taking this brilliant course. This is NOT a program designed to support the church's finances--it is a PERSONAL finances initiative that highlights wasteful spending and shows one how to become debt free--this is NOT a get-rich-scheme!!! Many of you have received messages circulating around concerning the upcoming National Association of Negro Musicians Convention. This convention will honor one of Emmanuel's finest--Brother John Bowen. Brother Bowen is dedicated to music excellence and has accompanied our Male Chorus for over 3 decades, as well as helped Emmanuel when we did not have a minister of music. Bro Bowen will be recognized at the Awards Banquet during the convention held at the Antlers Hilton Hotel in Colorado Springs, July 25-28. Register at www.nanm.org or call 719.593.8400. Banquet tickets are available in our AdMinistry Office. Our Media Ministry has expanded its support to the church and community and is in dire need of additional workers. Please support this ministry for the blessings that come out of this $30 Signature Box (valued at $78) not only feeds a family of one for a month, but a family of four for a week! Members and Friends, One of our members, Sister Ruth Nixon, went to be with God on yesterday. Many of you associate her with her son, Daniel Beasley, who would worship with his mother on Sundays. Daniel sings 1st tenor in our Male Chorus. She could also be found having breakfast in the fellowship hall between worship services. Her transition is especially difficult for Daniel, given that they lived together and Sunday is Mother's Day. Funeral arrangements are pending, but in the meanwhile, we seek your prayers for the family as this was sudden and unexpected. I will provide more information as it becomes available.
